New Advice Bureau’s at Sacred Heart School and Aspinal Church

The local councillors are glad to announce two new Advice Bureaus, at Aspinal Church on Reddish Lane, and at Sacred Heart RC School on Knutsford Rd.So the new full list is,

£314,000 boost for Nutsford Vale

Gorton South Councillor Simon Ashley today welcomed a £314,000 Forest Commission grant over two years to improve Nutsford Vale. The site stretches from Matthews Lane in Levenshulme across to Pink Bank Lane in Longsight and Buckley Rd in Gorton.

£118,000 is earmarked to be spent this year, and £196,000 next year. The Council’s Executive Committee agreed the figure today. The money will secure the site from vehicle access, create a set of DDA compliant paths across the site and allow boundary treatments at entrances across the site.

The project will be managed by Red Rose Forests.

Cllr Ashley said today,

“This is good news for Nutsford Vale and will improve the site massively. Although Councillors have given Cash Grants in the past, we couldn’t afford to do all the work that needed doing. This grant will change that.”

Nutsford Vale Facilitator Alan Gibson added,

“We only have one attempt to make this work. With over £300,000 being spent, it will be absolutely essential that local residents are fully consulted about the detail of the action plan.”

Commenting on the 6 arrests and taking into care of 15 Roma children today, local Councillor and Lib Dem Leader Simon Ashley said today,

“I want to put on record my thanks to the Police, the Council and other agencies for taking this necessary action today. It is good to know that when local Councillors and local people raise issues of concern with the Police and Council they are taken seriously and acted upon.”

Cllr Ashley added,

“The Council and the Police ’s duty is to make sure children living in Manchester are safe and looked after. When there is evidence of cruelty or neglect, it is important they act, whatever the race or country of origin of the child.”

Gorton Christmas lights confirmed

Gorton’s Liberal Democrat Councillors can today exclusively reveal that, for the first time ever, Christmas lights are coming to Hyde Rd and Gorton District Centre. The lights will be installed and turned on by the start of December. Funding has come from several sources, including Councillor’s Cash Grants, Manchester Highways, Manchester Markets and the Gorton 100 Steering Group. Local business’s are also being approached to contribute.

Gorton North Councillor Wendy Helsby said today,

“This is great news for Gorton, and a fitting way to round off Gorton’s 100th anniversary of coming into Manchester.”

Gorton South Councillor John Bridges added,

“The Local Councillors are happy to help fund something that will help local businesses and build on Gorton’s great community spirit.”

Every year the council inspects trees for which they are responsible across the city and then draws up a programme of work for the coming year . In our area the trees which will be receiving essential work during 2009/10 are :

After 25 years of advice sessions your Liberal Democrat councillors have decided to bring them closer to you. The new surgeries will include venues in South Gorton, Debdale, the Hemmons Road area of Longsight and Levenshulme.Current details:

Gorton South Liberal Democrat Councillors John Bridges, Charles Glover and Simon Ashley hold regular advice sessions where people can chat to us face to face about any problems or issues. All local residents are welcome to attend, no appointment necessary.

Pre Planning proposals for the area near St Marys between Stockport Road and Chapel Street

Last thursday Irish Anglo, a property development group held a public consutlation on proposals for land between Stockport Road and Chapel Street around St Marys RC church. This consultation is taking place prior to Irish Anglo submitting a formal planning application so I’m sure they’d like to hear the comments and questions of local residents and Traders.

Whilst the site does not fall in the Gorton South Ward (Chapel Street is the boundary) it will be of interest to many in wider Levenshulme.

I’ve attached the plans that I’ve recieved so far.
